We solve that two ways: factory-color nosings when available, and custom-milled nosings cut from the same plank when they aren't. Either way, the front edge of every stair matches the tread exactly - no contrast strip, no aluminum trim, no gap.

Vinyl stair installs fail in two ways: poor adhesion (planks lift at the nosing) or unprepared substrate (every step squeaks). We use polyurethane construction adhesive plus mechanical fasteners hidden behind the nosing, and we level every tread with skim coat before the plank goes down. The result is a staircase that feels as solid as hardwood with none of the maintenance.

Vinyl Flooring Stairs - frequently asked questions
Modern LVP is embossed with a low-slip micro-texture rated for stair use. It's more slip-resistant than polyurethaned hardwood and similar to LVT in a commercial setting.
We remove the carpet, padding, staples, and tack strip first, then evaluate the treads. Solid wood treads get a quick level and the LVP goes on top. Particleboard or damaged treads get replaced. If you'd rather keep the softness of carpet, see our carpet stairs page instead.
Not when properly installed. Our crew re-secures every tread and adds construction adhesive before laying the plank, which actually makes the staircase quieter than it was before.
